THE PRIVATE DESIGNS

”I guess you could say he was as stylish as he was neurotic." - Alexander Stutterheim about his grandfather
The Private Designs is a creative project initiated by Stutterheim Founder and Creative Director Alexander Stutterheim. With a number of separate product drops throughout the year, the purpose of the project is to create a collection of wardrobe heroes that clearly incorporates the Stutterheim DNA, while expanding the assortment beyond the familiar sphere of protective outerwear.

Once again, Alexander’s late grandfather has served as the main source of inspiration.

”I started Stutterheim as an hommage to my late grandfather and his way of life. Since then I’ve been telling the story of how I found his tent-like fishermen’s raincoat, and how circumstances in my life led to the creation of the first ever Stutterheim raincoat, and the brand itself. What I haven’t talked about is that my grandfather was a role model not only in life, but also with regards to his innate sense of style. I guess you could say he was as stylish as he was neurotic.

With the launch of The Private Designs I’ve been diving in to his wardrobe, trying to reinterpret and modernize some of the timeless pieces I remember him wearing. It is a collection of iconic garments and accessories suitable for any modern wardrobe, inspired by my grandfather’s life and complex personality.”

A. STUTTERHEIM TRENCH

A modern take on the classic trenchcoat

The A. Stutterheim Trench – handmade in Europe in an exclusively limited edition of 30 pieces.
The second product release of The Private Designs is the exclusive A. Stutterheim Trench – a classic, black, knee-length trenchcoat. Designed in Stockholm, it’s handmade in Europe using a high-performance yet luxurious cotton fabric sourced from Limonta, Italy and treated with a water-resistant coating.

The A. Stutterheim trench is a unisex style that can be fastened two ways, with both men’s and women’s buttoning. The garment is jet black with a vibrant red half-lining. It features two front pockets and one interior pocket as well as a storm shield collar and adjustable waist belt.

Each coat is individually hand-numbered.

Alexander Stutterheim about the story behind the piece:

As with the very first Stutterheim coat, this new trenchcoat was inspired by my late grandfather. He was, many decades ago during a better-dressed era, the theater manager at Konserthuset in Stockholm. Over his daily uniform of a suit and tie he’d usually be seen wearing a trenchcoat, both rakish and practical. On one particular occasion this trenchcoat housed the keys to my grandfather’s Mercedes, which was subsequently stolen by Messrs Laurel and Hardy. My grandfather had struck a deal for the duo to perform in Stockholm and split the receipts 50/50 with the theater, however he’d overestimated their popularity in Sweden and only 30 people turned up. Feeling cheated, Stan and Ollie made off with the car (and the trenchcoat) in lieu of sufficient payment, making it most of the way to Denmark before giving up and stubbing their cigars out on car’s leather upholstery.

In honour of those original 30 theatergoers I’ve reinterpreted his trenchcoat, with no expense spared. Handmade using the finest fabric from Limonta, the A. Stutterheim trenchcoat is a limited run of just 30 pieces.

NORRVIKEN

Knitted Turtleneck

The Norrviken Knitted Turtleneck – hand-knitted in a limited edition of 50 pieces.

Knitted in a 3 gauge fishermen rib, with fully fashioned details, available in two versions – a dark grey and an off-white.

Norrviken is delivered with contrasting beauty stitches where the sleeve and body are connected. Traditionally added during production as guidance for the knitter and subsequently removed, here they are retained as a decorative detail. Easily removed, it is up to the wearer to decide whether or not to keep them.
