Anastasia Muna is a photographer and art director based in Berlin. Originally from Cape Town, where the sun is sharp and relentless, she picked up a camera at age eighteen, without a plan. The South African light isn’t gentle and the shadows carry weight, which taught her to see in contrasts and photography just felt natural – following form, light and movement.

After she lost someone dear to her, the act of taking a picture evolved into something else – a way to hold on, to archive absence. But over time, Ana stopped trying to preserve. Now she’s more interested in presence, in the feeling of now.

“The moment something becomes still, it changes. I like that tension.”

“I'm always pulled toward people. Fashion is great because it’s a way to explore identity, how clothes shift our energy, our posture, the way we take up space. I love that tension between the person and the lens, that little electric charge when something real happens. It’s subtle, but you feel it.”

Our SS25 collection was captured by Ana outside the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin – she wanted to position the pieces from the collection somewhere bold but minimal, with a strong point of view. For her, when shooting fashion, the concept begins with the garments. What’s the mood, what are the clothes asking for? The Neue Nationalgalerie just made sense. An iconic, but not overwhelming space, a “space that breathes”.

Ana met Sonja years ago, and has been waiting for the right moment to shoot the makeup-artist-turned-model, as she’s drawn to photographing people with “some history to them”. She finds that Sonja has a quiet magnetic power, a certain presence which stylist Julia weaved into the story through styling and the clean lines of the Neue Nationalgalerie. “It all just clicked.”

It wasn’t rainy on the day of the shoot, but on days where the dark clouds do roll in Ana would choose some deep house to cut through the grey or lean into the mood with Whale by Duval Timothy. “Sometimes you ride the storm, sometimes you push back.”
