Care Guide: How to Care for Your Suede Boots
Curious about how to make your suede boots last as long and look as fresh as possible? Following this simple guide, it’s an easy accomplishment! We want your STUTTERHEIM suede boots to age gracefully (and evade any bald spots…) as much as you do.
Suede is made from the underside of the animal hide, unlike leather which is made from the outside. This is what makes suede so soft and gives it its velvety texture. However, it also makes suede a more delicate material – which requires the right care.
Did you know that the word suede derives from the French “gants de Suède”, which translates into “gloves from Sweden”? Such gloves were the very first suede garments, popular with the nobility in the early 19th century.

Step One: Cleaning Your Suede Boots
Remove the laces of your suede boots, if they have them, and clean separately. Use a damp cloth to remove any mud or dirt on the surface. You can also spray down the boots with a suede cleaner if you feel like they need a proper spa day. Take care to not get the suede too wet, as it might cause damage to the fabric. Let them air-dry before moving on to the next step.
Step Two: Treatment With Suede Brush
Now, grab your preferred suede brush and start brushing. Use moderate pressure and brush in the same direction all over the boots. This will refresh the pile and retain the velvety texture of the suede.
A hundred strokes a day should do it. No, right, that’s for princesses…

Step Three: Waterproofing with Suede Protector Spray
Finally, spray your suede boots with a waterproofing spray in order to keep them protected on rainy days. The spray will create a water-resistant barrier on the surface of the boots and keep your boots stronger for longer. Let the spray sink in and then re-lace the boots if needed. That’s all there is to it!
