Rachel Israela is a freelance photographer who shares her time between Berlin and Mexico City. Photography isn’t just her job, it’s her passion – a passion that she shares with her partner Fede Reyes with whom she has been working as a photography duo since 2020. Working both solo, as part of the duo with Fede and as a photo agent and director’s scout, photography in one form or another has turned into a full-time career.

It all started with her dad’s old camera from the DDR, which she still keeps for sentimental reasons even though it’s broken – it holds the memory of her early fascination with capturing moments. It’s particularly the analogue process of creating an image that has always interested Rachel.

“I really enjoy the technical and analogue process of photography—especially going into the darkroom and creating an image from scratch. There’s something incredibly satisfying about working hands-on with film and watching a photo come to life.”

But it’s not only the technical process that inspires Rachel’s photography, developing ideas and concepts is also a driving force of creativity. It’s when a concept or an idea takes shape, whether it’s a collaboration or a personal project, that her work feels most rewarding and what keeps her passionate about photography, even on (literal and figurative) rainy days.

On those days she enjoys listening to ambient music or classic tunes such as Riders on the Storm by The Doors, Teardrop by Massive Attack, Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath or Dream On by Aerosmith – songs that have the perfect moody vibe that pairs well with the sound of rain.
