STUTTERHEIM Shot by: Hyoin Bae
Hyoin Bae started photographing in 4th grade and it naturally became an integral part of her life – capturing places and people she adores is what she enjoys most. Dismissing college in favour of exploring the world, she’s been all over, from Sweden to Canada. Visiting Sweden was an unforgettable experience for Hyoin, and she went back to Stockholm an extra time before leaving Europe.
“It’s always the people for me, rather than the place itself. I met tons of really nice and fun local Swedish people and we made friends. They made me feel at home. I still cherish the moments when we sat by the river for hours watching the sunset and going to Under Bron [Stockholm’s biggest night club - Ed.], I hope it’s still there!”
Now, she’s back in her place of birth, South Korea, and enjoying discovering her own country and culture – the different dialects and characteristics of South Korea’s many regions. Apart from doing photography, she runs her own Pilates studio, with a mission to empower women and teach movements for rehab as well as lifestyle coaching.
urban Exploration
We asked Hyoin to photograph some pieces from our Core Collection in the city of Cheongju, where she’s currently based. The result is a series of photographs where her love for adventure shines through every frame. They capture an urban explorer, a 21st-century flâneur, roaming the streets of the concrete jungle. Her aim was to create images that look like stills from a movie and at the same time portray Asian men in a way that is delicate and beautiful without the emasculated mischaracterisations she feels are everywhere in Western media.
