Our Fabric Finishes: Matte, Opal & Regular
Ever wondered what the difference actually is between our fabric finishes? The fabric that we use for all of our raincoats (and bucket hats, most of our bags as well as skirts and trousers) is 100% waterproof with a water column pressure of +20 000 mm (that’s very waterproof).
But what does it mean when a product is part of the “Opal range” or called “Stockholm Matte”? Well, our fabric is not just waterproof but also very versatile and can be manipulated so that the look and feel of the fabric texture take on different characteristics. Let’s dive into the specifics!
Regular
Our standard fabric finish (which is recognised essentially by not being categorised as anything in particular), has a neutral texture which is neither shiny nor matte. The fabric comes in different thicknesses, from sturdy and hardwearing to lightweight and airy. The look of the fabric is very classic and what most people imagine when they think of rainwear.
Opal
The Opal fabric finish has a shiny, high-gloss texture and all the products in this range have Opal in the name, so you can easily identify them on our website. The name Opal comes from a gemstone with a shiny, multi-coloured surface, much like the effect of the fabric when it’s being worn and is reflecting surrounding lights and colours. This fabric finish is as high-glam as it is high-gloss and suits fashion-forward rain lovers best.
Matte
The Matte finish is achieved by brushing the surface of the fabric to create a micro-level fuzzy effect – imagine the nap of a suede hide. All the Matte garments are categorised under that name, making them easy to find and recognise. The suede-like, matte texture doesn’t reflect any light, giving the finish a muted and elegant look. This is the perfect choice for those who don’t favour the look of classic raincoats – it’s rainwear that doesn’t look like rainwear.
